reduced and methodical housey techno from this new anonymous project out of portugal. in the same lineage as early cabinet records or tobias freund under his tobias. moniker, the duo apply the detail-oriented approach of a sound designer to classic dancefloor forms, each cut matching techno sensibilities with a levity that can only come from a love for the giants of 90s us house. flat, impassive kicks get lifted by skippy hats and claps, dubby synth backdrops are punctured by dramatic stabs (note the chez n trent flashes on the b-side), and under it all roams an ever-restless (sub-)bass that reaches right into your guts. the name may be routine, the effect is anything but.

dubtil’s debut for amphia comes in line with the previous 10 releases’ tagline: tailoring new musical perspectives into the multidimensional universe of electronic music. the opener -indoiala- sticks into our brains with its slow decaying voices, pitched down to embrace the devilishly simple percussion. keeping the same eerie approach to his idea of dancefloor oriented loops, dubtil completes side a with -alta schema-, another typical kick-led experience enveloped into a more haunting bassline. bearing a deep house dna yet not losing contact with the dancefloor energy through its breaks pattern, side b’s -repet slap repet- opens the gates to the abstract structure of -contrar-, an apparently chaotic contiguity of weird samples, glued to each other by the minimalistic bassline. jumping from one genre to another, confronting dusty preconcieved ideas just to turn them into a fresh sound: dubtil’s imagination fountain is far from getting dry! we now have the tangible proof.

materia ep is the second installment of ruhig s double ep, inaugurated with particles ep in january 2016. originally the records were supposed to be out in the same period, but due to problems with our ex-distribution, materia ep got postponed of few months. the release starts with the transcendent trento, respecting ruhig s tradition of broken beats idm deep techno leaning openers. consecutive cut the vector is a thumping mixtures of drones and heavyweight hihats designed with some attention for dancefloor. the slow-burner materia delivers some powerful mist-shrouded kicks on the b-side, that wraps up with sciame, a massive droning wave of electro wasps, which still keeps some classy chilled out elements somewhere in the background, behind the thunderous main drums. vinyl unfortunately left no space for the extra only digital track 1870, this last one is percussive retro-futuristic jam of psychedelic mouth arp and huge mallets drums. the track will be available for free download in the same period of the vinyl

rainer steps up for the ninth instalment of half baked’s label. a strong record with four cuts designed for the dancefloor whether at peak time or after hour.

at 21 years old, mathis ruffing has already managed to craft a signature sound, elegant and mature with a focus on melody and texture. rewardingly diverse, the ep touches on several genres and influences, ranging from cosmic to earthy dancefloor cuts, acid, grime, proper electro, idm and ambient. the common thread on this record is the search for balance between heartfelt melodies on one hand and on the other a form of immediacy, raw and almost industrial. ruffing has no trouble finding this balance and adding five terrific tracks to the banlieue catalogue.

it is very difficult to present david duriez without writing an encyclopedic tome as its influence on the house music in france was decisive. since its inception in 1992, david released over a hundred records under his name, tens under various pseudonyms, mainly on vinyls on the most renowned labels like 2020vision, ovum, systematic, pokerflat, f communication, under the counter, stickman, crosstown rebels, the end, etc .. (the list is long, see discogs.com to be convinced) and as many remixes for some of the greatest artists (think moby, dj sneak, gemini, dj hell, llorca, telex, random factor, johnny fiasco, paul johnson, jori hulkkonen, ralph lawson, random factor, kenny hawkes or mr.c). founder of the label brique rouge and a whole galaxy of other labels, he participated in the creation of internationally recognized labels such as robsoul with phil weeks, freak n chic with dan ghenacia (from apollonia) or rz muzik. at a time when david had federated online the cream of the house producers via a forum (far and long before social networks), ivan smagghe had nicknamed him -the producer of the producers.- , a true house music activist, but most of all david duriez is a devastating dancefloor dj, he did several tours around the world and played in some of the biggest clubs in the world between 1995 and 2010. truly one of the most important players in the french electro scene, david is back on tracks after a few years hyatus. but don t call it a comeback because he has never really gone awol, he has been watching the scene and now he s back in the studio. you can expect a (very) long serie of releases for 2016, you have been warned!

guy gerber returns to his own rumors label, with his first release since the success of last summers rumors on the dancefloor ep. secret encounters is a hot doubled header of two killer productions by guy.

up first on the ep comes splendid -copper-. a pure 909 detroit funky work out and a dancefloor-filler at its best. with his name kind of a bow to the originators and the vinyl history. waiting for the drop business. the second tune -memories- is harder and darker. it comes with a huge atmosphere. you can see a dark room with just a strobe and fog in front of you. last one is the title track -akira-. its more experimental with a broken beat and a vibe which feels like a walk through chernobyl. one for the heads.

philippe quenum returns to cadenza music with ‘solitaire’, some thirteen years after helping kick start the swiss label with the 2003 release ‘orange mistake’/ funky dandy’. this groundbreaking single, co-produced with luciano, has since become a landmark release, not just for the label, but also as the benchmark for the micro-house and minimal tech-house genre that developed over the decade. with a music career than spans back to the mid-80s (dancing in nyc as part of the breakdance troupe, the magnificent force), quenum found his forte with house music, both as a dj, and as a producer and label owner. setting up the access 58 label in 1998 as a platform for his music and collaborations, quenum has consistently released over the years for labels like crosstown rebels, soma, alphahouse, thema and trapez ltd. ‘solitaire’ finds quenum on fine form, on the lead track, dubby fx and bass shaking shots roll out over an urgent disco beat, muted brass and technoid stabs fire from all directions as the tension building pads flourish. shadowy forces are at play on ‘mystic’, discordant sounds echo and bellow over reverberating percussion and a dense back beat that fire into life with shuffling hi-hats. wrapping up this welcome return to the label is ‘mystery’, whipping snares and industrial clangs rumble over the urgent drums for more hypnotizing dancefloor work from philippe!

after a fabulous summer and a mind-blasting krake festival, killekill takes its next step and kicks off another new label called vanta series, which is destined for small series of 12-es with out-standing dancefloor tracks. the name derives from vantablack, a colour from nano technology, which is the blackest black and actually invisible. vanta therewith stands for the total emptiness and is the perfect name for a label which does not have a defined identity itself but is a platform for different series, which will all have a concept and aesthetic in itself. the first series is called -the end is near-. it consists of 4 releases and comes with an artwork by french artist elzo durt. every release will contain a small poster, all four posters put together become elzo durt s piece -les anges de l apocalypse-. first record is by dez williams, who also released on shipwrec and bass agenda recently. a-side acidbanger is a serious banger and has future acid classic written all over it. the b-side comes with two acid variations - one more stingy, one emotional and psychedelic - which show the potential of this outstanding producer. open your ears and put the needle on - here is some acid!

moscoman arrived at the esp institute last year with a fistful of killer tracks and an imitable recipe for hummous, since then we’ve seen his debut with the dancefloor bomb akachi and a collaborative follow-up release with long-time cohorts red axes. we’re now excited to enter a new chapter with moscoman’s debut full-length album a shot in the light. this creative outpouring spans years of musical trials and tribulations, finally coming full circle to tell the story of an artist leaving his home in tel aviv to pursue his passions in the electronic mecca of berlin and beyond. moscomans unique approach evolves and devolves over the course of eight songs, enduring highs and lows yet never resting for too long in one place, thus illustrating his personal metamorphosis as well as his acute skill of giving many voices to one wild imagination. mexican cola bottle baby is our lead single, an optimistic dancefloor-filler that rides a disco rhythm, full of odd-ball percussion, over a swollen house bassline as we’re lead through clusters of synthesized mating calls via infectious melodic whistling. if there is a tune that sums up our idea of summer, bright as a cloudless day yet thick as a tropical heat, and is as wacky as we are here, then this is it.

beer serves up a second edition of edits, this time finely sliced & chopped by jacques renault. jacques doesn t go in for trickery, his quality as maker of edits shows clearly in these four cuts from henry rodrick, hnny, black fan and dj duke. this is certified dancefloor dynamite. limited stamped 12- ! .

ltd pressing , following the frankly huuuuuge norsk tripping release we get another xl rune portion, this time on his own drum island imprint... disko romeiko, as the title may suggest is a stomping, campfire lit and admittedly unlikely culture clash of greek and norwegian music. a vocoder laced, up-tempo workout of norse disco technique and traditional greek melodies that is a surefire dancefloor delight. remixes come from rune collaborator in chief, oyvind blikstad, who pitches the vocoder vox front and centre and strips back the groove while amping up the drama. finally baz reznik opts for a rumbling, acid laced house take... quite a package

a negative hallucination is an idea that was first put forward by sigmund freud in 1890. he used the term to describe how a hypnotised person could be led to be unable to see a person or thing that was right in front of them once out of the hypnotised state, creating a gap in their reality. sadly, this gap in reality seems endemic in the minds of many in the world, whether from lack of access to facts or from wilful ignorance. the result is the same regardless: a world where many oppressed peoples reality is edited out of the conversation. noleian reusse (half of africans with mainframes) and thomas cox (one third of pittsburgh track authority) got together in the studio in pittsburgh during a week of extreme social unrest in the usa in late 2015, resulting in these recordings. the tracks are crafted with a stripped back electronic funk and a stark, relentless feel that reflects the energy in the air at the time. as long time fans of politically and socially charged music like public enemy, underground resistance, nwa, dopplereffekt, and gil scott-heron, noleian and thomas have taken these influences and mixed them with their own styles to come up with a modern dancefloor version of those ideals. lead track solidarity fills the whole a side with its optimism. soulful melodies and strings conquer the driving rhythms, bringing a sense that through sticking together, a better future is possible. the b side s perspective is darker. police state is a crazy raved out banger that combines gritty acid and harsh tones that channel the day-to-day existence for far too many urban people. the third and final cut, surveillance, is a paranoid, spacey techno track that would be ideal as a soundtrack for closed-circuit television video reels. this snapshot of urban life is tied together through artwork by andrew burger, whose mix of throwback style and current ideas nails the dystopian existence that is now reality as predicted so long ago by orwell, huxley, lucas, and many more.

we play the music we love is an italian and uk based party that after 7 years of activity has decided to start with its own vinyl only label. the first release comes from one of the founders and resident dj of the collective: rills. he clearly stamping his mark on the label with two solid tracks to launch things with some claut. the two original tracks, one featuring sinderesi, explore some dubby house territory with mesmerising chords that will be appreciated on any demanding dancefloor. the additional remix is from the producer of the moment: samuel andre madsen a.k.a. s.a.m. (oscillat, delaphine, mandar, fathers and sons).

benedikt frey s arresting out of here was the second entry of our blanc series. originally a vinyl-only limited release, now the track gets a fresh new treatment in the hands of two mainstays of european techno: roman flugel and simon haydo. flugel s cosmic disco drama rework lives up to its name, maintaining the noir disco spirit of the original track but infusing it with tension-building sequences and strings that give it an extra mischievous twist. our favorite frankfurter also straightens the rhythmic skeleton and adds shuffling shakers to make it a relentless dancefloor weapon. haydo s remix delves into a more dismal terrain, transforming the vocals into haunted echoes, adding esoteric synths and topping it all with razor-sharp percussion in what sounds like a storm of ice asteroids falling into a lake of steel. the 12inch comes in a beautiful sleeve featuring an exclusive illustration by barcelona-based artist pau lopez and design by arnau pi.

nice price deal !!! one half of the prolific hoxton whores, kevin andrew delivers a no nonsense slice of heads down house, perfectly tweaked to add a real edge to the dancefloor. stabby synths and a low slung bassline are the main features, whilst the track bubbles along with recognizable hooky riffs and enough breakdowns to make any discerning house crowd rock! danish hotshot, and one man remix machine, kid massive joins the party on the flip adding in a tougher constructed percussive feel whilst chopping up the groove.
